What We Do
genARTS Silicon Valley is a social and professional network for emerging arts, cultural, and creative leaders. genARTS envisions a thriving creative community in Silicon Valley that draws on a strong network of emerging leaders who are prepared to serve as the next generation of leadership.
Who We Serve
Through a wide variety of events and activities, genARTS aims to develop its members as arts, cultural, and creative leaders, to provide a variety of ways to network with other industry professionals, and to advocate for its members within the broader community.
Why It’s Important
In 2009, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation commissioned a study on next generation leadership in the arts. This study found a number of barriers for the next generation of individuals who wanted to prepare themselves for leadership roles in the field. genARTS addresses many of these concerns by providing strong networking opportunities, facilitating community dialogues where both emerging and established leaders are involved in the conversation, leading professional development workshops, and more.
What’s Been Done
- genARTS is produces an annual Creative Conversation in response to the Americans for the Arts’ call for community leaders to gather and discuss issues that are important to both the local and national arts, culture, and creative ecosystem.
- Every year, genARTS gathers emerging and established leaders at the Movers & Shakers event to honor the vibrant individuals who are moving, shaking, and shaping Silicon Valley’s arts, cultural, and creative sector.
- In 2014, genARTS began an Emerging Artist Grant program to encourage local artists to design projects that address challenges faced by our local creative community.
